Ethan and the fixed Nintendo DS LIte

Nintendo DS repaired

Ethan and Daniel were given a broken Nintendo DS Lite that had been left in a lost and found.  The top screen was cracked.  Richard Brenny my neighbor and I fixed it today.  While it took almost a full month for the $30 screen to get here, the repair worked fine.  There was one point when I realized that I was going to have to solder the speaker wires that I thought I had accepted a job that I could not do.

We did prevail!  With the help of Rick and of Tammy's fancy magnifying device we got it done.  I ended up taking an old BIC pen and taking the inside little tube out of it, cutting a small slit in the end and using it to wrap up the connection cable to get it though a hole in the hinge.  I was really excited that it actually worked.

Right now as I write this, Joel, Isaac, Nathanel, and Ethan are playing Mario Cart against each other.  They each have a Nintendo DS Lite, and they are playing wirelessly against each other.  How cool is that?

Very cool.

gustav

If you are not paying attention to the Hurricane Season you should.  Go look at the info now.  Right now.  This post will still be here when you get back.

OK, so did you notice Gustav?  Predicted to be a cat 3 or 4 and going straight to New Orleans?  Please note that New Orleans is a shell of the city it once was.  It is an embarrassment to our country what was allowed to happen there, and what has not occured since.  Terrible.

keep your attention on Gustav. Pray that it will not occur again.

wonderful moments

Today Elizabeth's Dad was sitting on our couch reading a book to Ben and Dan.  The kids were sitting there inthralled with the story of Moses.  It was a wonderful moment.  SOOOO Cool.

I need to remember how cool it is to read to your kids, and even cooler it is when other people do.

What do you read to your children?

five blogs every three days

OK, so I have been slacking, and in order to in fact get 30 blogs in thirty days I now need to put up five entries every three days.  So , before September 12th at midnight, I need to post 27 more blogs.

I was thinking that right after I put up that post about thirty in thirty that I got really busy at work.  The truth is that I never really get any non-busy time at work.  It is always really busy.  So I need to learn to make that my new normal.  Of course, I then get into the situation where being very busy is the norm, what happens if I then get even more busy?

So, what is the baseline?  I would like to think that I had a base line of enough work to do to have a little pressure to get things done, but still with enough time to get them done well.

I have not had that in a very long time.  What about you?  I very busy your norm?  What is your baseline amount of work to do, and when was the last time you experienced it?

Troops coming home from Iraq?

2011 is a possible target date set up by the government of Iraq for the total withdrawel of American troops.  The rumored plan includes a Jan. 2009 start date for removing troops for the cities in Iraq.

I wonder how much of the Iraq governments willingness to ask American troops to leave has to do with thier desire to have some input on the process.  I wonder because of the American election that is coming up.  Whoever wins, there will be new political pressure to start bringing troops home.

I will be very interested in seeing what "official" anouncements come out about this in the next few days.

American Women Win Silver in Gymnastics!

The headline above is what should have been seen in papers and on websites this week when the American Gymnastics team won the silver medal.  Instead, they had headlines like "Americans Gymnasts disappointing loss".

So, they win the silver medal, wich means that they did better than all other teams than one. The news also centered on two mistakes made by one specific gymnast.  First, the score reductions she got due to falling twice were not enough to have made the difference so the team could have gotten gold.  Second, Shouldn't we be Really Really Really happy about them getting silver? Third, the chinese women (girls, 16??? and over) did a really really good job to win Gold.

Yep.  What do you think?  I say, Congratulations American Womens Gynastics Team!!!
