More about Weather on the web
OK, so after all my yaking about online weather services, and the premium stuff... none of them are worth the money, in my opinion. Weather.com, weatherunderground.com, and a host of others offer "Premium" services. Some of them are as cheap as $9.99 a year. Mainly the offerings include the regular site, without advertisements, but with a customizeable homepage. Weather.com's premium, or GOLD service is cool. They only forecast to 10 days. I think that is good, as anything more than 10 days out is not accurate at all. See my earlier blog about that.
I work on a MAC and most of thier (weather.com) desktop stuff only runs on a PC. Accuweathers stuff was all JAVA based with no install needed, so it would work with any operating system. That was cool.
All of the premium weather services I have seen give you longer animations for radar and satellite. Looks cool, but so what? Is it really that helpful to be able to see the last 6 hours of radar, rather than the last 2? The premium services all put a ton of info on one customizable page. That saves time, and looks cool. Almost all of the info is available for free though.
I am going to put together a page of links to the cool websites for weather. It takes a little longer to go to several pages for the info, rather than paying for a service with a nice front end. I am going to see if I can create my own customizable page with stuff from several different sites on it. Now that would be cool. A single page that would aggregate information from several sites.
Hmmm...
