Best Day Ever?
Saturday April 9th was one of my best days ever in my life. It was a sunny beautiful day in Waynesboro VA.
I woke up (at 7, which is really sleeping in late for me) to the sounds of my 15 month old in his crib. He was not crying to get out, he was just saying Da Da Da over and over again, while turning off and on his light. I went and got him out of his crib, and went to the living room. His older brother Ethan woke up and came out and we listened to Praise music on our stereo in the living room with the idea of letting mommy sleep a little longer. After a while we went in and all of us sat on the bed with Elizabeth (mommy) while she woke up. It was very nice as the four of us lied there and talked about what we might want to do that day. Daniel was very specific with his babbling. He wanted to eat.
It ended up that Grandma and Grandpa Ralston came over and brought us breakfast! It was great to see them in the morning, but they brought food also!
Then we went shopping for a few things we were going to need for the garden work we had planned, and my wife bought me a gas powered trimmer! Does it get better? YES, it does!
After working in the yard for a while, I was putting the trimmer together and doing the edging while my wife Elizabeth cut grass, we stopped for lunch. We decided to eat lunch out on the deck. Ethan and Daniel sat at a table in kids chairs. Ethan fed Daniel lunch! Ethan was being so good to his little brother. It was one of those moments that I will always remember. When people tell you to pay attention because your kids grow up before you know it, this is the kind of moment they are talking about. It was wonderful.
After lunch, we went back to work in the yard. (Did I mention that my wife had also tilled the garden some that morning?) With Daniel awake and wanting to be outside, and Ethan wanting to play, my wife asked me if I would play with them while she continued to cut grass. I did not want to hesitate! YES! So Ethan and I played ball in the back yard while we watched Daniel walk around and eat dirt. While Elizabeth cut grass! Could it get better? YES!
After a while my wife decided that it was OK for me to do some mowing as well. So I mowed a little part of our yard that was left. How does it get better you ask?
Grandma and Grandpa were going to stop by on their way home from shopping! Cool! So they stop by and are on their way to go out to eat, and Elizabeth, my all incredible wife, says she will take us out to eat! WOW. Could it get better? YES!
Texas steak house is not my favorite restaurant, but it is good. We got there and got seated right away. After having a wonderful meal with very well behaved children, the checks came. Ours was short my meal. As in, our ticket was about $15 less than it should be. Could it get better? YES!
We told our waitress, who had been talking to Daniel and Ethan throughout the meal about the ticket being wrong. She went to fix it. When she came back, she said that it was never wrung in properly, and that my meal, Grilled Tuna, was on the house!
When I finally got in bed that night, after putting our wonderful kids to bed, I was worn out. That kind of worn out that only comes from a good days work. Satisfying. And I got to go to sleep knowing that the next day was Sunday, and we would be going to Church, which we all love to do.
Thank you God for such a great day.
Amen.
